Carcassone was absolutely amazing, and we were lucky enough to be able to stay right beneath the city walls, and then the Millau Bridge, a few days of the opposite from Medieval to High-Tec, and it was brilliant. We then left France and made our way to Switzerland – we drove round Geneva and on to a little village called Grandson (how appropriate) on Lake Neuchatel. A lovely spot, just beautiful, lots of cycling and a large nature reserve, so lots of birdwatching and another Chateau, which very weirdly had Winston Churchill’s Austin he drove in the war. We stayed there for a week and then drove into the Swiss Alps and it is absolutely fantastic, just breathtakingly beautiful. The weather has been just perfect over the last few weeks, most days sunny, although we are now experiencing storms in the mountains, which are quite entertaining and they don’t last long. We are staying here until Friday, 1st August, so over the next couple of days we will spend walking in the mountains, as yesterday we saw our first Golden Eagle at the top of Brienzer Rothorn Mountain which we reached via Switzerland’s last Steam Cogwheel Railway. Next stop is Germany.
