Over the Pyranees to Spain

We left our friends, Sue and Steve in France on Friday, and now we are really on our own. On Friday night we stayed on a Foie Gras Farm in Mugron, France and we were soothed to sleep by what sounded like millions of randy frogs croaking. (The amphibian variety I promise)

Next day we headed for St Jean-Pied-de-Port in the French Pyranees. The weather was just perfect, so we saw the mountains at their best. The next day we left for the tricky pass over the Pyranees into Spain - at one point the road was single track, but fortunately for us nothing came the other way, otherwise that would have been interesting....

We are now just North of Madrid in a mountainous area around Segovia, where there are plenty of eagles and vultures, just brilliant. We are staying here a few days, then driving further South in Spain to Extremedura.

As I see it you seem to be spoilt as far as bird-watching is concerned. And there is more to come when you reach the "DoƱana". Don't miss Cordoba on your way round Spain.

Phookhinborrin' ear in'it. Oh, just saw 2 House Spadgers and Herring Gull (tick - tick). Not quite the same at home is it (but then you wouldn't know). All to report is yes it was my birthday and thanks for the thoughts. Had yet another shoulder op last week but not without the usual company hassle. Trying hard to relieve them of a few bob, they suggested I go to Aberdeen to discuss, I suggested they come to Weymouth and enjoy the discussion. They agreed to come, so step in the right direction and feel they are on dodgy ground, but we'll see, it would be nice to have the Talisman scalp hung up alongside the MoD. Dinner at the Oasis last eve with Julie and Co, excellent otherwise very quiet. Only birds Have been a stray Wood Sandpiper at Radipole and a Hooded Merganser, provenance not proven, only the second for GB if accepted. Have started planning 'interior' China, Hong Kong and Macau before going to Aus and NZ but having a few snags with visas. But don't you worry I'll get those 'slopes' sorted out. Unfortunately will miss the Olympics middleweight boxing and decathalon after training so hard and all.
Spect your flippin' fed up with all the bull now so will sign off. So pleased to hear all well and enjoying, get together soon. B&S xx
